Ruby Wedding Cake

Image
Emily was a bride of mine from a couple of years ago, and she recently ordered this beautiful two tier anniversary cake for her parents 40th Ruby Wedding Anniversary. The brief was a white cake with ruby red decoration with a personalised topper of her mum and dad on the top, but other than that a free reign! As the topper was so detailed I decided to keep the cake simple but elegant, with white icing with red pico dots and red ribbon with a small diamante buckle. For the topper, Emily sent me many many pictures of her mum and dad and their dog who she also wanted included on the topper, and some details of how the models should be dressed as per one of the photos. The lovely thing about the topper is that its a great keepsake as its fixed on a board on top of the cake which can be lifted off for easy keeping and will keep indefinitely as long as its kept dry. By all accounts Emily and her parents were thrilled with the cake and especially the topper!

Harry Potter Wedding Cake

I LOVE Harry Potter, but sadly the only Harry Potter wedding cake I had been asked to make was a couple of years ago and that was sadly whilst I was away on holiday! Having not been asked since I decided to make my own version for a wedding fair! I had so many ideas running through my head, so many possible options, but in the end I decided to keep it relatively simple (I mean not blast with lots of different colours) but also incorporating a number of well known sayings / phrases and articles from the books! A pair of glasses and a wand were an absolute must! In the end after several sketches I came up with the book at the bottom (But which one? - I did the History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot), with the Marauders Map, the classic "Always" love quote and a golden snitch on the top. In hind sight I thought that actually the footsteps on the top could have formed a heart shape, but I didn't think about this until afterwards. The final cake proved a hit at the weddi...

I wanted to write about the mega road trip I took a couple of weekends ago to deliver two very beautiful cakes. It's complicated and there are so many factors involved that I have put it off as I am not sure how to explain it clearly, but I'll give it ago! Firstly the issues involved:- 1) Wedding cake booked at Salomons Estate, Tunbridge Wells approx 16 miles west of here and on a good run takes 36 minutes. 2) Gorgeous Blackhorse Inn book a wedding open day there 11-3 on the same day. I've been a recommended supplier there for a number of years so keen to take part. I can deliver the cake and get to the Blackhorse around 11.00 no problem. 3) One of my March 2019 brides has to reschedule her wedding and also does this for the same day. This wedding is at East Quay Whitstable, 31 miles east of me and on a good run takes 43 minutes. 4) Both weddings are at 1.30pm 5) Highways England decide to shut the M20 motorway between junctions 4-6 for the whole weekend to repla...
