Vintage style pink and white wedding cake

Image
This is a beautiful cake there is no doubt about it, but whilst it is stunning there is also some sadness behind it.   The cake was designed with a bride and groom for their wedding. It was to be in pink and white with edible cake lace pieces, vintage roses, and hydrangea sprays over 5 gorgeous tiers. Sadly, the couple decided not to get married and to go their separate ways. This happens far more than people realise and there are many reasons why couples choose not to get married in the end.   It’s very distressing for the couple and their families and it is a tricky one for suppliers and although our hearts go to the couple whose hearts are no doubt broken, we must learn not to take it to heart and to provide our service to the next couple who do continue with their wedding plans.   So, I was left with this beautiful cake design that I was never going to make for an actual wedding, so I made it anyway and used it as a display cake for various weddin...

Gemma and Matt's bright wedding at Bradbourne House, East Malling

Image
Matt and Gemma lived fairly close to me and were getting married at Bradbourne House, East Malling which is just around the corner from my house. They had been looking for a local wedding cake maker and found me.   Gemma had chosen some amazing bright course for their wedding including petrol blue, yellow, red, and orange.   I love colourful wedding cakes, so this made me really excited about their cake.   During the consultation, the happy couple chose a 3-tier barley twist square wedding cake decorated on two tiers with edible cake lace and each tier edged in “petrol” coloured ribbon.   Gemma and Matt chose sugar flowers for their cake, and so I made 3 sprays of sugar roses in yellow, red, and orange with a few hydrangeas and leaves between. I made these beautiful bright flowers a while before the wedding and they sat in my cake room, and I really missed them when they had gone.   The flowers were arranged on the front of the to...

Nikki and Richard's Pretty Wedding Cake with Personalised Cake Topper

Image
Nikki and Richard were married in 2017 at The Village Hotel, Maidstone.   Nikki chose a very pretty 3 tier wedding cake decorated with Cake Lace, pink and blue ribbon to match their theme and bridesmaids and finished with diamante to add a bit of glitz.   Nikki borrowed our pink pedestal cake stand which not only gave the cake extra height but matched their pink colour perfectly adding that extra bit of detail to their cake table.   The couple were very keen to have a personalised wedding cake topper that they could keep after the wedding. I made the topper using Renshaw Modelling paste so it would set hard and they would be able to keep it.   Richard is a fireman and wanted to be in his Fire Uniform, and Nikki in her wedding dress. So, to this they supplied me many photos of themselves (independently of course so Richard wouldn’t see Nikki’s dress) and I used these to create the figures.   The modelling paste figures will keep indefinitely if it doesn’t get dam...

White rose wedding cake

Image
White/ ivory cakes are not really my thing as I love a little bit of colour on a cake if nothing else. At wedding fairs I am often asked if I make "white" cakes so here was my homage to a white cake. It was really hard to design as I wanted to put bits of colour here and there, also there are some great wedding cake designers who specialise in tall Victorian cakes and I was very conscious of not copying anything they had done. I based this design on Victorian style wedding cakes with piping and delicate detailing. I used royal icing piping for the boarders and for the swags on the top and second tier. To create the lace effect I used Claire Bowman Cake Lace and decorated the other tiers with moulds by The Old Piping Bag. To make the cake a little different from my standard sugar flowers I used silk roses for between the tiers and on the top of the cake. Silk flowers are great alternative to fresh and sugar flowers and really under used for weddings. The cake being 6 plus tie...

A really personal personalised wedding cake.

Image
Carly and Leigh were married at The Orangery, Maidstone back in the spring of 2017. When I first met Carly and Leigh they had no real idea of what they wanted for their cake, just the colours they were using for their big day which they wanted to incorporate into their design. After a chat, tea and lots of cake during the consultation, they seemed very keen on the idea of a "reveal" cake. They were very keen on the cake being elegant and pretty as well as fun so we used cake lace on the front part of the cake edged in ribbon to match the colour theme and a narrow strip of diamante to give the cake that little bit of a sparkle and elegant look. Carly and Leigh had no immediate ideas what to have on their "reveal" side so I suggested the idea of film negatives depicting lots of personalised photos. They thought this was a great idea and were very excited to go off and search out pictures for me to use. In the end, Carly and Leigh sent me photos of them as a couple, ...
