A really personal personalised wedding cake.
Carly and Leigh were married at The Orangery, Maidstone back in the spring of 2017.
When I first met Carly and Leigh they had no real idea of what they wanted for their cake, just the colours they were using for their big day which they wanted to incorporate into their design.
After a chat, tea and lots of cake during the consultation, they seemed very keen on the idea of a "reveal" cake. They were very keen on the cake being elegant and pretty as well as fun so we used cake lace on the front part of the cake edged in ribbon to match the colour theme and a narrow strip of diamante to give the cake that little bit of a sparkle and elegant look.
Carly and Leigh had no immediate ideas what to have on their "reveal" side so I suggested the idea of film negatives depicting lots of personalised photos. They thought this was a great idea and were very excited to go off and search out pictures for me to use.
In the end, Carly and Leigh sent me photos of them as a couple, of themselves individually and some of their cat. I prepared the negatives on an edible printer using as many of the photos as possible and as large as possible so that they could be easily seen on the cake.
To contrast the front side of the cake which was iced in ivory with ivory edible lace, I used a dusky pink icing on the reveal part that was part of their wedding theme and then completed the design with the two colour ribbon like the front but this time with ivory and burgundy ribbon instead of dusky pink and burgundy on the front, again finished with a narrow row of diamante.
With a reveal cake its really important that your guests can see the "reveal" part of the cake. There is no point in having this type of design if it's not seen or seen for only 5 minutes. There are a few ways to achieve this, such as having your cake in the middle of the room so guests can walk all around it, use a rotating cake stand or place a mirror, preferably a free standing floor mirror due to its height behind the table. The reason I recommend the tall free standing mirror is firstly because if it's on the floor behind the table it can't topple over and damage the cake and also because they are often tall enough to reflect the whole height of the cake even on a cake stand rather than cutting off the top tier in the reflection.
The cake was finished with matching colour sugar roses and a lovely acrylic cake topper with their married name.
The cake received great feed back and Carly and Leigh loved it!
