Vicky and Matt's floral Wedding Cake at The BarnYard

Image
Vicky and Matt were married in 2017 at The BarnYard in Upchurch. I met them at the wedding fair held at the venue previously.   Vicky had seen a picture of a cake she liked that she wanted reproduced for her wedding. However, after the consultation we decided to make a few changes to personalise the cake just for them.   Vicky and Matt were having pale blue and pink as the colours for their wedding and so we were able to incorporate both of these into the cake design and they also chose a lovely tall 5 tier cake.   The cake itself consisted of three tiers of pale blue icing on the 1 st ,3 rd and 5 th tier and the 2 nd and 4 th tier was made up of ivory tiers.   The top and sides of the top of the blue tiers and the bottom of the ivory tiers were decorated in individual small flowers made from icing, each with pale pink centres.   The other tiers of the cake were edged in a narrow hessian ribbon with a hessian bow at the front of the 3...

Karen and Jeremy's Autumnal Log Wedding Cake

Image
Karen and Jeremy were introduced to me after a recommendation from a friend. They were having a September wedding at the Kent Life Venue in Maidstone which is a farm museum and local attraction.   For their cake they wanted lots of autumnal sugar flowers and loved the ideas of a log slice tier.   They chose a 4-tier cake, with the bottom in a light brown log with their initials carved into the front heart on the tier.   The other three layers were iced in ivory icing and decorated in sugar flowers which included Sugar work lavender, poppies, seed heads, blackberries, blackberry flowers, roses, rosehips, cornflowers, ivy and many more!   The cake looked stunning on our vintage wooden crate in the Kent Life Wagon Store. All flowers made using Squires Kitchen Flower Paste . Karen and Jeremy cutting their cake Me in the mirror attempting to not be in the photo but failing miserably!

Tiffany and Dan's Rustic Wedding at Odo's Barn

Image
When I met Tiffany and Dan, they knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding cake, 4 tier cake with two tiers decorated as logs and two tiers in normal ivory icing.   We discussed various ideas and options but came up with the idea of the bottom tier being a log with a heart carved into the front with the couples initials and an arrow through the carved heart, the second and top tier iced in ivory icing and left plain but edged in natural hessian. The 3 rd tier was another log with a heart carved in it this time with the wedding date carved in it.   The cake was topped with a large spray of ivory sugar flowers which matched the wedding flowers including Freesia, David Austin Roses, Lisianthus, Brunia Balls, blossoms and ivory roses.   The wedding was held at Odo’s Barn in Bilsington near Ashford. It was my first visit to Odo’s Barn, and I must admit it was quite difficult to find, but oh my goodness was it worth it. The venue was absolutely stunnin...

Sophie and Matt's Autumnal Rustic Wedding Cake - October 2018, The Gardens - Yalding

Image
I met Sophie and Matt at  The Wedding Experience at Detling early last year. They were getting at  The Gardens, Yalding in October and planning an autumn wedding. When we met up to discuss their cake design, they had fallen in love with a log slice cake but couldn't decide on whether to go for a silver birch log or a brown wood log. After discussion I suggested why not go for both logs on the cake, no reason why not! Certainly at The Gardens, there would be both types of trees and would there for blend in amazingly with the environment. In addition they were very keen to have a cascade of flowers matching their wedding flowers as well as decorations of autumnal leaves, toadstools, acorns and other autumnal foliage. All the flowers, and decorations were made by sugar paste, including the gorgeous little toadstools and mushrooms which I have to say I am rather in love with, and the flowers were made using the information supplied by their florist to ensure they matched t...

Round Oak Styled Shoot - September 2018

Image
Last summer I was asked to take part in a styled shoot at a new wedding venue, Round Oak Farm in Maidstone. This is a working farm with a large outdoor woodland area which can be used for outdoor weddings. It has so much potential for weddings. The day of the shoot although sunny was very windy and cold, but Claire being a skilled photographer got some amazing shots. My daughter who came with me for something to do before she went off to Uni got roped in as a model too which was totally unexpected. We had a great day and I got to meet and work with some amazing suppliers including Chelsea of  Chelsea Buns Cake Design . Chelsea made the desert table and small cake and I made the large cake. The brief for the shoot was whimsical and  woodland, having had to look up "whimsical" I came up with the cake below with a dream catcher, feathers, silver birch log and some gorgeous little toad stools which I fell in love with! The fabulous suppliers were:- venue: R...
