Heather and David, 9th November 2018 at The Barnyard

Image
Heather and David were married at  The BarnYard in Upchurch on Friday 9th November. The colours for Heather and David's wedding were dusky pink, rose gold and burgundy. When I met Heather for her consultation she came with water colour sketches of cake ideas. It's always great when brides bring sketches and colours, even if we don't go with that in the end it's a really good base to start from. Heather came up with the final design for the cake just a few weeks before the wedding. A burgundy marble bottom tier, a dusky pink lustre top and middle tier, with rose gold brush stokes on the top tier. Each tier and the cake board were edged in burgundy ribbon. The topper was provided by the bride and groom. The stand used was our wooden box stand.

I met Kate and John at The Wedding Experience Detling in April 2018. When they came to visit me for their consultation they already come up with some ideas for their cake design. Their colours were burgundy, dusky pink, ivory and silver lovely for a winter wedding. The bottom tier they wanted in the burgundy colour to match the their bridesmaids edged in burgundy ribbon, the second tier in ivory edged in a wider dusky pink ribbon. The third tier was a double height tier with a burgundy marble effect, although not deep coloured marble. This tier was edged in burgundy ribbon, whilst the top tier was to be plain ivory with their initials painted in silver off centre to the right finished in burgundy and white pencil strip ribbon. The cake was to be finished with a silver topper supplied by the bride and groom, and two sprays of sugar flowers to match the wedding flowers. The sprays were to include white Amnesia roses, silver Brunia, burgundy Ranunculus, pink spray roses, Amnesia ro...

Shell and Callum 17th November 2018 - East Quay Venue

Image
I met Shell and Callum, at the  The Wedding Experience , at Detling, last April. They fell in love with the Silhouette Cake I had on display. Their wedding was booked for March 2019. When they came to see me to discuss their wedding cake and tasting session, they had completely changed their minds about what they wanted for their cake design, going for a mixed butter cream and iced cake. The bottom tier was to have butter cream piped roses in ivory, blush and pale peach. The second tier was to be in white icing decorated with blush  Cake Lace . The third tier was more butter cream roses as per the bottom tier and the top tier white iced with a pale pink ribbon and bow with a silver brooch. The date of the wedding changed from March to November 2018 at  East Quay Venue, Whitstable . This was my first visit to East Quay and I must say it is such a lovely venue and the staff there were all really helpful. It looked like it was going to be an amazing wedding, although N...

Drip Cake with Easy Blue Drips

Image
I was asked to make a drip cake by a client who had seen a similar cake on an advertisement outside a local coffee shop. The cake was a drip cake, nothing major there, except that the drips were baby blue There are so many ways of doing drips, "runny icing", white ganache, white chocolate and I am sure there are more but making pale blue can be tricky. I have tried the runny icing effect (water and icing sugar) but this tends to me not give the best effect. I've also tried white ganache, but the best method for me is using chocolate. White chocolate is fine if its left natural or if its painted, but to get the pale blue colour I needed to add a blue colouring. I am a novice at chocolate work, learning slowly, but I know normal paste colours don't mix with chocolate, causing the chocolate to go hard, you can buy chocolate colouring which I have used but this doesn't seem to give the bright / vibrant colours I want. I also found out that you can add dusting powde...

My first wedding cake So this is me in August 1995 sporting a very dodgy hair do and looking like I could loose a few pounds, however this is a special picture because it's me with my very first wedding cake. I am looking pleased with myself as it's such a big accomplishment, my mum was with me and so proud too. By this point in time I had been making cakes as a hobby for about 2 years, I was under taking my City in Guilds in Sugarcraft and Design but I had never thought myself capable of making a wedding cake. Wedding Cakes after all are so important and can absolutely ruin someone's big day, however a friend of my mums nephew was getting married and had been let down by a cake maker and my mum volunteered me!!!! The couple wanted a royal iced fruit cake in 3 hearts with pink drop loops and floral sprays. I can't remember much about the making of the cake or even how much I charged but I do remember putting it in my car and driving it to Dartford from my...
