Gemma and Matt's bright wedding at Bradbourne House, East Malling

Image
Matt and Gemma lived fairly close to me and were getting married at Bradbourne House, East Malling which is just around the corner from my house. They had been looking for a local wedding cake maker and found me.   Gemma had chosen some amazing bright course for their wedding including petrol blue, yellow, red, and orange.   I love colourful wedding cakes, so this made me really excited about their cake.   During the consultation, the happy couple chose a 3-tier barley twist square wedding cake decorated on two tiers with edible cake lace and each tier edged in “petrol” coloured ribbon.   Gemma and Matt chose sugar flowers for their cake, and so I made 3 sprays of sugar roses in yellow, red, and orange with a few hydrangeas and leaves between. I made these beautiful bright flowers a while before the wedding and they sat in my cake room, and I really missed them when they had gone.   The flowers were arranged on the front of the to...

Shannon and Aaron's Barley Twist Wedding Cake at Cooling Castle Barn

Image
Shannon and Aaron were married at the beautiful Cooling Castle Barn in the spring of 2017.   They chose a 4-tier square wedding with the tiers off set to each other (I call this a Barley Twist), one of our popular designs. Shannon and Aaron had chosen pink as their wedding colour and wanted pink incorporated into the design, so we used pale pink ribbon around the edge of each tier which was also completed with a single row of diamante around each tier.   The second and top tier were in additionally decorated with a continuous piping technique known as Cornelli work. It’s a very pretty technique that it also quite subtle but adds an additional texture / feature to the cake.   The cake was faced points forward and a cascade or pale pink and white sugar roses were added to the top pf the cake and across the front of the cake, covering the point of each tier as they twisted round the cake. I then added a few lose rose petals around the cake to make...

The Great Gatsby

Image
It must have been amazing to have been invited to Mr Gatsby's parties (if he was real), there was certainly no expense spared. The 1920/30s for some people was a fabulous time, letting their hair down and partying, the fabulous décor and intro into the Art Deco era. Must have been "roarin'" Gatsby themed weddings are very popular, especially as it's a great theme for a party and I was inspired to make this cake after seeing a black and gold fan design on the internet. The cake was not  totally inspired by Gatsby, as I've actually only seen the film once, more by the fan design I must admit. Now this cake was made a few years ago now, and you'll notice no sharp corners and edges on the cake which would actually add to the theme for sure, but on its own this cake is certainly striking Black and gold together are great but adding to white too is even more amazing. If I made this cake again, I would go for square edges all round but for the time being here sh...

Eliza and James Wedding - November 2018 - Salomons Estate

Image
Eliza and James' winter wedding was held at Salomon's Estate in November 2018. I met Eliza and James at  The Wedding Experience , Detling in April 2018. They had no initial ideas what they wanted for their wedding cake, so when they came to visit me to discuss ideas and taste the cakes, they spent a long time flicking through my cake albums. Eliza came across a 3 tiered square cake that I had made several times with slight variations and fell in love with it there and then. We modified the cake to fit their theme and their colours, it also contained a Gluten Free top tier for the groom. The cake was iced in white icing, each tier edged in white edible pearls. Two tiers, the top and bottom were decorated in Cake Lace and the cake was finished with a cascade of burgundy, pink and white sugar work roses and sprigs of fresh gypsophilia. The cake was set up in the theatre at Salmons Estate in Tunbridge Wells, my first visit there. The cake stand was supplied by the venue. ...
