Amy & James's Wedding Cake at Hempstead House Hotel & Spa 2018
I met Amy and James at a wedding fair, and they visited me for a consultation
where we discussed their wedding ideas and plans. They were getting married at
the beautiful Hempstead House Hotel & Spa in Sittingbourne in September 2018.
Amy and James were not sure what type of wedding cake they wanted at all,
they liked the idea of a buttercream wedding cake, a chocolate covered wedding
cake or a sugar paste cake, so rather then having to choose, I suggested we
have a cake covered in all three, after all there is no law that says your cake
must be entirely buttercream, or entirely iced in sugar paste etc.
The happy couple chose a buttercream cake for their bottom tier decorated
in ivory rose swirls, with white chocolate cigarillos for the middle tier. The cigarillos
not only look amazing but taste lovely too and are held in place with buttercream,
so it followed on nicely from the buttercream bottom tier.
For the top of their cake, they chose a plain ivory sugar paste tier
edged in their wedding colour, a dark burgundy which was also used around the
edge of the chocolate cigarillos and around the ivory sugar paste covered cake board.
Amy and James also loved the idea of sugar flowers on their cake but also
wanted a cake topper with their names on so to ensure that both fitted nicely
on the cake we added the flowers to the front of the cake in front of the top
tier. The spray of sugar flowers included a large focal point Alstroemeria,
burgundy scabious, pale pink, blush, and burgundy roses as well as orange dahlia
and foliage. I loved the colour of the spray when the flowers were all put together,
its still one of my favourites.

Their beautiful bespoke topper was made by Mark of Design Etch Cut in a gold glitter finish with a burgundy heart
between their names and I think it finished the beautiful cake off perfectly.
