All white wedding cake

Image
This all white wedding cake was made for the autumn 2018 wedding shows, you may also see it at the winter 2019 shows too. I struggle with all white cakes as I love to add a bit of colour and struggle not to add some maybe as some colour ribbon before its finished. So this was my homage to the all white cake using moulds by  Karen Davies Moulds and  The old piping bag , vertical white stripes on white and an extra large white sugar rose on top, finished with some old fashioned piping!

Vintage Suitcase Wedding Cake

Image
Many years ago I made a suitcase wedding cake for my nieces wedding. The picture was on one of my show banners and proved to be very popular at wedding shows. I'd been meaning to make a dummy version for ages but wanted to find the right cases to make. At a recent wedding show I was stood opposite a travel agent who had a stacked pile of cases as part of their display. This was the perfect inspiration. Once I had made the cases I added a passport and airline ticket to the cardboard. The cake could be easily be personalised further by adding luggage labels of places you have travelled or your honey moon destination, and may be an old fashioned brown luggage label with the couples name on and wedding date. The colours and the shapes/ designs can be changed too! The possibilities are endless.

Round Oak Styled Shoot - September 2018

Image
Last summer I was asked to take part in a styled shoot at a new wedding venue, Round Oak Farm in Maidstone. This is a working farm with a large outdoor woodland area which can be used for outdoor weddings. It has so much potential for weddings. The day of the shoot although sunny was very windy and cold, but Claire being a skilled photographer got some amazing shots. My daughter who came with me for something to do before she went off to Uni got roped in as a model too which was totally unexpected. We had a great day and I got to meet and work with some amazing suppliers including Chelsea of  Chelsea Buns Cake Design . Chelsea made the desert table and small cake and I made the large cake. The brief for the shoot was whimsical and  woodland, having had to look up "whimsical" I came up with the cake below with a dream catcher, feathers, silver birch log and some gorgeous little toad stools which I fell in love with! The fabulous suppliers were:- venue: R

Fireman Sam Birthday Cake

Image
My older son went to Malawi with his school last summer and we held various fund raising events to pay for the trip. At one of the events I donated a raffle prize of a £50 cake voucher. The winner of the voucher asked for a Fireman Sam cake for her son's birthday, and paid a bit extra on top of the voucher. The brief was Fireman Sam and bright colours. I handmade the Fireman Sam model, and used edible prints for the logo. The cake board was covered in contact paper by  Tal Tsafrir at The Cake Decorating Company .

Cadbury Chocolate Birthday Cake

Image
This amazing cake was lucky to get to the client. It was ordered as a birthday cake for one of my grooms birthdays by his now wife. The brief was a chocolate sponge cake edged in flakes and covered in many types of Cadbury Chocolate. The cake consisted on 35 flakes, twirls, wispas, a chocolate egg, various Cadbury buttons and mini picnics! It smelt divine and I was so good I didn't eat any of the sweets but my kids enjoyed the left overs :)

Red Rose Birthday Cake

Image
This beautiful birthday cake was ordered for a daughter for her mum's 70th birthday. The brief was red roses, and a big red 70 on a white cake. The red roses were sugar work and off set with green rose leaves, and finished with a large 70 made using  Patchwork Cutters and finished with a red ribbon, red bow and silver diamante buckle. The birthday girl was over joyed with her cake as was her daughter!

Heather and David, 9th November 2018 at The Barnyard

Image
Heather and David were married at  The BarnYard in Upchurch on Friday 9th November. The colours for Heather and David's wedding were dusky pink, rose gold and burgundy. When I met Heather for her consultation she came with water colour sketches of cake ideas. It's always great when brides bring sketches and colours, even if we don't go with that in the end it's a really good base to start from. Heather came up with the final design for the cake just a few weeks before the wedding. A burgundy marble bottom tier, a dusky pink lustre top and middle tier, with rose gold brush stokes on the top tier. Each tier and the cake board were edged in burgundy ribbon. The topper was provided by the bride and groom. The stand used was our wooden box stand.

I met Kate and John at The Wedding Experience Detling in April 2018. When they came to visit me for their consultation they already come up with some ideas for their cake design. This tier was edged in burgundy ribbon, whilst the top tier was to be plain ivory with their initials painted in silver off centre to the right finished in burgundy and white pencil strip ribbon. The cake was to be finished with a silver topper supplied by the bride and groom, and two sprays of sugar flowers to match the wedding flowers. Eliza and James Wedding - November 2018 - Salomons Estate

Image
Eliza and James' winter wedding was held at Salomon's Estate in November 2018. I met Eliza and James at  The Wedding Experience , Detling in April 2018. They had no initial ideas what they wanted for their wedding cake, so when they came to visit me to discuss ideas and taste the cakes, they spent a long time flicking through my cake albums. Eliza came across a 3 tiered square cake that I had made several times with slight variations and fell in love with it there and then. We modified the cake to fit their theme and their colours, it also contained a Gluten Free top tier for the groom. The cake was iced in white icing, each tier edged in white edible pearls. Two tiers, the top and bottom were decorated in Cake Lace and the cake was finished with a cascade of burgundy, pink and white sugar work roses and sprigs of fresh gypsophilia. The cake was set up in the theatre at Salmons Estate in Tunbridge Wells, my first visit there. The cake stand was supplied by the venue.
